“Big City, Small World” is a painting series that combined 9 different languages as the basic symbols, and used expressive calligraphic strokes to format a pai nterly surface. This series was done using oriental brushes and ink combined with western water based paints on traditional Chine se paper. The central objective of Gan’s paintings is to reconcile differences that result from our various cultures and environment in order to create a more stable world. We are living in an increasingly interdependent community and need solidarity in facing new challenges. Globalization and the emergence of a new economic reality is the core focus for this series.
