Regulations for International Students Applying for Chinese-American Government Scholarship Program

The China Academy of Art, formerly the National Academy of Arts, was established in 1928 as a center for specialist studies in the Fine Arts. The Academy is located in Hangzhou, the provincial capital of Zhejiang province, which is one of China’s most economically and culturally developed Provinces. The Academy's Nanshan Campus sits beside the West Lake, and the Xiangshan Campus is at the foot of the Xiangshan Mountain. Tranquil and visually exquisite, it is ideal setting for the practice and study of the Arts. The Academy’s seven specialist schools for plastic arts, design, inter-media, public art, animation, architecture and for art and the humanities, all presently accept International Students for Master and Ph.D level study. SCHOLARSHIP AWARD DETAILS

The Chinese-American Government Scholarship Program is an annual award for the graduate students and renewable for up to 3 years. The program includes:

  • Tuition Waivers: 51,000.00 Yuan for the Master’s Degree, and 68,000.00 Yuan for the Doctoral Degree
  • Dormitory Fee Waiver: 60 Yuan per day for a double room suite, approximately 13,500 - 14,000 Yuan for a school year.
  • Full Coverage of Medical Insurance during his/her academic studies at the China Academy of Art in Hangzhou, China.
  • Subsidy for other Living Expenses: student pursuing the Master’s degree will receive 3, 000 Yuan each month, and the student pursuing the Doctoral degree will receive 3, 500 Yuan each month.
If the students whose Chinese level cannot meet with the requirements of major studies must study Chinese language program at the International College of China Academy of Art for one year. Please note that the International College will provide students an extra full-year scholarship to support their Chinese language studies.
 

CRETERIA & ELIGIBILITY

1. Applicants must be American citizens in good health.

2. Education background and age limit:

- Applicants for master’s degree studies must have bachelor’s degree (applicants must be under the age of 35).

- Applicants for doctoral degree studies must have master’s degree (applicants must be under the age of 40).

APPLICATION DOCUMENTS

The applicants must fill in and provide the following documents truly, correctly and completely (besides specially required amount, all the other documents should be in duplicate)

  • "Application of Master Degree Program of China Academy of Art" or "Application of Ph.D Degree Program of China Academy of Art". Please send the filled application form to yugan@caa.edu.cn, or caaic@163.com (Please affix personal photo to the application form)
  • 3 copies of applicant's passport (photo page)
  • 4 passport size 2.54 × 3.81cm photographs of the applicant, neutral background
  • Study or research plan: in Chinese or in English, no less than 800 words.
  • Highest diploma (notarized photocopy). University students or applicants employed shall provide proof of studying or employment on application. Documents in languages other than Chinese or English must be attached with notarized translations in Chinese or English.
  • Academic transcripts (notarized photocopy): Transcripts in languages other than Chinese or English must be attached with notarized translations in Chinese or English.
  • Recommendation letters: Two letters of recommendation in Chinese or English from professors or associate professors.
  • Applicants must submit a CD of the applicants’ profile and own art works (Applicants for plastic arts, inter-media art or public art must provide more than 3 creative works according with the aiming major. Applicants for design art, animation and architecture art must provide for a painting album of design works. Please note title and size for each work ).   • Photocopy of Foreigner Physical Examination Form (the Report of Blood Examination including the HIV test must be attached.) Students should carry on the original copies of Foreigner Physical Examination Form as well as the Blood Examination while they come to China.. The medical examinations must cover all the items listed in the Foreigner Physical Examination Form. Incomplete records or those without the signature of the attending physician, the official stamp of the hospital or a sealed photograph of the applicants are invalid. Please select the appropriate time to take medical examination due to the 6-months validity of the medical results.
  • Photocopy of valid HSK certificate (students whose Chinese level cannot meet with the requirements of major studies must study Chinese language program at the International College of China Academy of Art for one year).
  • Photocopy of bank receipt for transferring the 600 yuan RMB application fee (application fee cannot be paid through on-line bank ).

  • Applicants of Chinese Government Scholarship should also register at “China Scholarship Council Application Online” http://laihua.csc.edu.cn/inscholarship/jsp/student/StudentLogin.jsp , then fill out and submit the application form to China Scholarship Council online. The institution code of China Academy of Art is 10355. Please also print the application form and submit it (in duplicate) together with the above application documents to China Academy of Art. Attention: You must confirm and submit it online. This is very important!
